Description

Open Day is one of the key recruitment events of the year for RMIT University and its success on the day is the result the efforts of staff advisers and student volunteers. You can help out for the whole day, or select to volunteer for just half the day.

You'll get to share your knowledge of the University with potential new students and, with approval from your manager, be eligible to claim Time Off in Lieu.


Who can apply?

  • Currently employed full-time or part-time staff of RMIT University
  • Friendly and outgoing people
  • Good communicators
  • Those not already be registered to help at Open Day through their School, Program or College

After the event, if approved in advance by your manager:
  • Staff up to and including HEW 7 are entitled to double Time Off In Lieu for working on Open Day. Please enter details into ESS and this will be calculated automatically.
  • Staff classified at HEW 8 and above are eligible to receive Time Off In Lieu equivalent to the period of time worked, 1 hour worked = 1 hour Time Off In Lieu. Please enter details into ESS and this will be calculated automatically.
  • Executive staff are not entitled to Time Off In Lieu.
Please make sure you confirm with your manager before volunteering to work on Open Day.

Volunteer roles

All volunteers will help by:

  • Distributing Open Day guides and explaining the digital planner
  • Proactively approaching visitors who look like they need help
  • Directing problems or enquiries to the appropriate area

As an RMIT employed staff member, a natural leader who enjoys a hands-on approach, you'll take a leadership role in helping meet and direct visitors to the campus, while providing support to a team of student volunteers.

  • Provide additional knowledge to visitors seeking information
  • Support a team of volunteer students

Extended duties (choose one and we'll allocate):

1) MEET AND GREET AMBASSADORS
Are you a proactive, friendly person that has no problem to approach people looking for help? A Meet and Greet volunteer is there to make visitors feel welcome and help them to find what they are looking for in the Open Day Guide and mobile device digital planner.

  • Greet and welcome visitors

2) DIRECTIONAL GUIDES
Do you have a good sense of orientation and do you like helping people? Directional Guides are there to help and point visitors in the right direction. You will have to familiarise yourself with the as much of campus as you can!

  • Give clear directions to visitors to ensure they can find the building or marquee they are looking for
  • Give directions to public transport (Trains, trams and buses)

Locations

Various, but mostly outdoors.

Training

All general student Volunteers will be required to attend a 30min training session in the week prior to Open Day. This is not compulsory for Staff volunteers, however you may attend to get more information if you wish.

Directional Guides will then go on a Campus tour which will take an additional 30 minutes.

Please register by "booking" a ticket above, in the category you would like to register for - either a Directional Guide, a Meet and Greet Ambassador, or either and we will allocate based on what is most needed.
